A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is given to employers who create health and safety programs that meet established standards. A COR demonstrates that a certified auditor has evaluated the employer’s health and safety management system and meets provincial standards. These standards are instituted by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

What are the benefits of earning a COR?
By establishing a COR program at your work, you can lower workplace incidents, reduce workers’ compensation board (WCB) rates, and increase the overall efficiencies at your work site.
Preserving a COR guarantees an ongoing review of an employer’s occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS). This reveals any gaps in the system so that they can be identified and fixed. It also gives employers an Alberta government-issued certificate verifying their efforts to cultivate a healthy and safe workplace. Not to mention, having a COR qualifies employers for WCB premium refunds of up to 20%.
Can an employer earn a PIR rebate without earning a COR?
Employers cannot. They must be COR-holders to be eligible for a PIR refund from the WCB.
