Matrix and Gitga'at First Nation Team Up to Provide Indigenous Labour Solutions for NW BC Projects

Matrix Labour Leasing has announced it's partnering with the Gitga'at First Nation to provide Indigenous labour solutions for the upcoming projects in northwest British Columbia. Read on to find out more about the exciting new joint venture.

Matrix Labour Leasing and the Gitga'at First Nation have teamed up to address the expected worker shortage in northwest British Columbia by creating a new joint venture named Gitga’at Matrix Workforce Services Ltd. (“GMWS”).

The partnership is focused on providing Indigenous labour solutions to Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat regions as the areas continue to experience unprecedented developmental growth.

“On behalf of the Gitga'at Nation and its people, the Gitga'at Development Corporation is pleased and proud to be working with the Matrix team in helping to place good people into meaningful and well-paying jobs and careers,” says Gitga’at Development Corp. CEO Paul Paterson. “Matrix's important contribution to the prosperity of the Indigenous people of the Northcoast and the local contractors in the region is both acknowledged and appreciated.”

GMWS will help supply the trade labour, heavy equipment operators, pipeline workers, and general labourers for the projects taking place in Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat. With over $100 billion worth of investment expected in the area over the next 10 to 16 years in the form of LNG plants, pipelines, infrastructure, hotels, and homes, GMWS will be able to provide unlimited funding to meet labour demands. It will also offer the local First Nations community job opportunities that provide stability and growth through initiatives like apprenticeships, sponsorships and community development.

“Matrix is very excited about this new partnership. We want to help mentor and employ as many First Nations people as we can,” says Matrix Labour Leasing CEO Shannon Warren. “To us, this is about purpose, job creation and building long-term relationships for mutual benefit. We want to help GMWS leave a legacy for local people to prosper from.”
