Over the past five years, office construction in Calgary has gone from strength to strength. Not only is this boom in office tower construction creating jobs, it is also paving the way to a bright future for the city. To find out more, check out the blog below.
The office construction industry in Calgary is certainly alive and well – since 2009, over 7 million square feet of office-specific floor space has been constructed and over 5 million more is still being constructed. Fabrizio Carinelli, chair of the Calgary Construction Association and president of CANA Construction said that both 2013 and 2014 are on track to exceed $6 billion in building permits. However, according to Carinelli, while these figures are “record breaking” they also pose some problems for the industry in terms of labour staffing and construction jobs.
With Carinelli expecting the Calgary construction industry to require 100,000 new workers over the next ten years, there is more need than ever for efficient and reliable labour staffing solutions.
But with such a strong boom always comes the risk of the dreaded other “b” word – bust. So how does Carinelli think Calgary's construction industry fares in terms of sustainability?
“Alberta has typically had a pretty strong economy when it comes to infrastructure and building [...] We're fortunate to be in a province that has natural energy resources and those will drive a large part of the economy for a long time.”
It seems that the inevitable ebbs and flows of the industry won't threaten the strong demand for construction jobs any time soon. This is shown by the number of under construction and upcoming office tower projects in the Calgary area, such as Centron's Place Ten and Oxford's Eau Claire Tower.
The office tower construction industry in Calgary is going from strength to strength and it isn't showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon! While this is great news for those looking for jobs in the construction and labour trades, it does pose challenges for companies who are faced with an ever increasing need for skilled and reliable labour. This is where labour staffing companies such as Matrix Labour Leasing provide value – by offering highly skilled, efficient and reliable labour to these large construction projects, Matrix provides customers with the solutions they need.
