The Importance of Proper Winter Construction Boots

As winter finally settles in, many construction workers across Calgary will be bundling up for work. Cold weather, snow and ice present new safety risks that need to be taken into account. One of your most important pieces of winter safety gear is your boots. Though there are many brands of high quality construction boots out there, they are not all equally suitable for cold weather work. Here are a few things to remember when selecting the winter work boots you need:

1. How Cold Will it Get?

You should also opt for fiberglass or nylon ankle support shanks as opposed to steel ones for the same reason.


4. Check the Grip
   
   Especially if you are going to be working outside, you need to ensure your boots have a good grip. A strong grip prevents slips and falls that could be deadly.


5. Make Sure You Are Comfortable

   When purchasing your boots, ask what the return policy is. Most stores will let you take the boots home and try them out around the house before you fully commit to them. This will let you better determine if there are any spots that rub and if the boots are comfortable overall. If your boots are starting to wear out, you should definitely replace them. The expense of replacing them will pay for itself by keeping you safe, warm and dry this winter.
